Have been working with several local entrepreneurs on business ventures for the past 6 years. Assembled teams of relevant talent and wrote the business plans for a number of complex business ventures, many of which involved cutting edge areas of law like mortgage securitization. Associate Counsel | Newport News, Avon Products subsidiary | 1988 - 1994· Sole in house counsel handling multiple legal aspects of this catalog company in the apparel industry in Virginia. Managed complex litigation and copyright issues. Also acted as a business analyst for the accounting department, reporting directly to the Vice President of Accounting. Helped to streamline operating procedures to reduce costs and improve customer service. Acted as a supervisor in the distribution center managing over 300 employees processing merchandise returns.
In House Counsel | Riviera Casino | 1995 - 2000· Worked directly for the Senior Vice President of Accounting and the General Counsel. Handled risk management, litigation, and regulatory compliance matters. Also worked as an analyst for several departments including budgeting, IT, new business ventures, financial reporting to outside investors and SEC reporting compliance as a public company. Assembled the presentations for board of director meetings and for financial investors. Worked with the budgeting director assembling the quarterly zero based budgets in conjunction with department directors. Assisted the Vice President of Casino Operations with new business ventures including the development of a new casino in Blackhawk Colorado and management contracts for the 4 Queens Hotel in Downtown Las Vegas. Solo practitioner | Las Vegas, Nevada | 2000 - Present Shared an office with Rex Belle (former District Attorney of Las Vegas) and John Lukins at the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Charleston from 2000 to 2004. Rex Belle exposed me to some of the major players in both criminal law and business practice in the Metro area. John Lukins was an excellent mentor on family law and litigation practice. Did a significant percentage of my practice in family law and bankruptcy. Handled complex litigation including partition actions landlord tenant disputes. Admitted to the federal bench in Las Vegas. Focus for the last five years has been on entrepreneurial ventures. Developed the business and marketing plan for a group seeking to buy the Desert Inn right around the time it was bought out by Steve Wynn. Also worked on mortgage defense through analysis of securitization defects which impaired the ability of banks to foreclose on real estate.
